UW-Madison Russian Flagship SOAR Student Assistant

The Russian Flagship Program invites applications for a student hourly position to staff the Russian Flagship table at the Summer Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) resource fair to share information about the UW-Madison Russian Flagship with incoming students and their parents or guests.

Specific duties will include:

  • Set up and take down, staff, and maintain the UW-Madison Russian Flagship table at the SOAR resource fair, which takes place on Monday-Thursday from 3:50-6:00 pm at Union South throughout the summer. A select few resource fairs will take place on Friday between 7:50-9:00 am (see exact dates and times here).
  • Provide information and answer questions on the Russian Flagship with effective oral communication skills and with the aid of printed materials and online resources provided by the Russian Flagship.
  • Answer questions about the study of Russian language, culture, and area studies and related opportunities UW-Madison.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with the Russian Flagship Program
  • Enthusiasm in promoting the study of Russian and connecting it to undergraduate students’ personal and professional goals

Dates and times: Approximately 2 hours for each SOAR resource fair listed here. Applicants should be available for all or most resource fairs.

Approximately five hours of training in advance of the start of SOAR (late May) will be required.

Hourly rate: $18 and above depending on qualifications

Approximate total number of hours (including training and daily setup/takedown): 55-65 hours
